How often should you purchase new running shoes?

I started training for a marathon 2 months ago and the marathon is now 5 weeks away. I purchased a new pair of running shoes at the beginning of my training. Should I buy new shoes and break them in before the race or could I still use the same ones I bought 2 months ago? Thoughts and opinions?
