Feeling stuck trying to find a decent rental that isn’t a complete money pit

By March 20, 2026 - 9:32am

I’ve been in the market looking for a new place for the last few weeks and honestly, I’m getting pretty discouraged. I feel like every time I find a property that fits my budget, it either needs major repairs or the application process feels impossible to get through.

I’m not sure if I’m just looking in the wrong places or if this is just the standard state of the market right now. I want to make sure I’m making a smart move financially, but I also don’t want to end up in a situation where I’m constantly fixing things.

I came across a post that broke down some of the red flags to look for when walking through a property and how to actually run the numbers so you don’t end up overpaying for a place that isn’t worth it. It helped clarify a few things for me, specifically what to look for regarding the roof and water damage that I normally would have missed.

If anyone else is feeling stuck out there, this is the article I was reading. It helped me walk away from a place I was about to put an offer on, which was probably the right call.
