Exploring Women’s Wellness Through the Lens of the Transgender Community

By June 2, 2025 - 3:56am

The conversation around women’s wellness is expanding by the day especially as the society becomes more inclusive. There is now an increasing recognition of the fact that wellness and womanhood is a broad field. For trans women the path to wellness is layered with many challenges, triumphs and needs that are mostly ignored in mainstream narratives. A more complete and richer understanding of women’s wellness is gotten when it is explored through community blog for transgender people as it allows for proper understanding in terms of what wellness truly means for the mind, body and soul.

Like all women trans women need to have access to wellness and healthcare resources that supports their journeys and affirms their identities. However many wellness industries including mental health, reproductive care, beauty and fitness constantly fail to include trans experiences and this often leads to feelings of neglect and invisibility.

Healthcare is one of the most vital pillars of wellness and this is usually complex for trans women who are navigating the medical systems. Gender affirming surgeries, access to supportive general practitioners and hormone replacement therapies are all vital aspect of trans health. However in many parts of France and the world at large trans women are faced with gatekeeping, long waiting lists and providers that don’t have the training required for handling trans specific care. It is important that trans healthcare is fully integrated into mainstream wellness and this is an indication of health equity.

Another vital aspect is mental wellness as trans women are often faced with high rates of trauma, depression and anxiety that results from social discrimination, exclusion and misgendering. The importance of mental health support cannot be overemphasized but it is still underrepresented in many wellness spaces and therapy practices. It is important for safe affirming environments to be transformative and offer healing both emotionally and physically.

It is also worth noting that the community has a powerful role to play. Trans women are building their own wellness networks now which is impressive and it comes in the form of advocacy groups, support circles and online forums where they can share resources, celebrate milestones and offer peer guidance. These spaces play a key role in redefining wellness and what it looks like though a lens of solidarity, care and self determination.

Exploring wellness through the lens of trans community helps in enriching the conversation in general. It also helps in challenging narrow definitions and reminds us that wellness must be intersectional, and inclusive.
