Looking at a used Mini Cooper S in Abu Dhabi – am I overthinking this?
My wife has always wanted a Mini Cooper, and we found a 2018 Cooper S in Abu Dhabi that looks super clean, low mileage, nice spec, and the seller seems like a middle aged guy who probably didn't beat on it. But I've heard so many stories about these cars having timing chain tensioner issues, the infamous "death rattle" on cold starts, thermostat housings cracking, and the turbo oil lines leaking. It's not like we have endless money to throw at repairs, so I want to be smart about this. I've been trying to find someone who actually knows these BMW powered Minis, not just a general mechanic who works on Toyotas all day. I came across something called a mini cooper car inspection dubai that claims to check all the common failure points like the upper engine mount that collapses, the water pump that leaks, and even the brittle coolant return line that snaps and leaves you stranded. Has anyone here actually used a dedicated pre purchase inspection on a used Mini in the UAE? I'm trying to decide if it's worth the extra cost or if I should just take it to the dealer for a check. The car is priced about average for the market, nothing suspiciously cheap, but you never really know until you own it for a while. Any advice from current or former Mini owners would be super helpful because my wife has her heart set on this car and I don't wanna be the guy who ruins her dream because I'm being paranoid. But I also don't wanna be the guy who buys a nightmare.
