Any help for skin that gets sticky when it gets wet?

sticky skin

Three nights ago I noticed that after washing my hands they felt really sticky, almost like when you use the last paper towel on the roll and you get that glue residue on your hands. However, it wasn't the last paper towel so I figured maybe the liquid soap was really old and doing funky things so I rewashed with dish soap and again grabbed a paper towel. Once again, my hands got sticky as I dried them off. Thinking now that there was something wrong with these paper towels, I washed again and this time dried with a hand towel only to yet again find my hands sticky as they dried off. The stickiness only lasts 30-60 seconds, until the skin completely dries, but during that in-between time of soaking wet and totally dry they feel very tacky to the touch and my fingers will actually stick to each other.

The next day when I took a shower I noticed that the water was beading up on the skin on my arms. Sure enough, when I dried off afterwards I found that all of my skin is tacky to the thouch until it is completely air dried.

Today I shaved my legs and my skin felt almost like it had a layer of wax on it that kept catching the razor. The skin on my hands seems to be getting more sticky when they get wet. Water continues to bead on my skin when it gets wet. I asked my children if they can feel that my skin is sticky to the touch and they said yes.

This is affecting all of my skin now, including my face. I always put a moisturizer on my face after washing and it does not feel like my skin is absorbing it now, it just feels heavy and greasy since the lotion just sits there on top. I also tried putting lotion on my hands and it was not absorbed at all, just left my hands feeling very slimy and greasy so I wiped it off.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this or have any suggestions for what might be causing it? Thanks for any held you can give.

Find out if you have an elevated cholesterol and triglyceride level.
If yes; ask a prescription for a statin.
Alternative (but very expensive) treatment could also be had with extended release Niacin (Vitamin B3)

Sodium hypochlorite (Chlorox) has a good action to deplete
polymeric substances.
You can do a google search action (video) to get
information.

Standard treatment is taking a 30 minute bath with one cup Clorox.

An Alpron (Brand name/antiseptic) like solution can be made with 70% citric acid, with about 2% sodium hypochlorite.
Food grade Citric acid is sold as coffee machine cleaner in the supermarket. Citric acid is the same as lemon/lime.
In practice you can dilute the citric acid and squeeze some clorox in the solution.

Hello This is Diane. Had my follow up appt with dermatologist. I confessed to him I did not use Epiceram Creamhe wanted me to use. Told Dr I want to know the cause of the stickiness and not apply lotion the rest of my life. He claims Vitamin E pill 800mg once a day helps his patients who have sticky skin caused by medication they are on and feels if it helps them, it will also take stickiness away from me. He also ordered more blood tests; results pending (I just went yesterday to lab). He is leaving no stone unturned. He seems genuinely concerned and was going to reach out to other colleagues asking if they know why this occurs in people not on medication. He has not gotten back to me so I am thinking maybe he got side tracked and forgot to inquire or his colleagues are also stumped. I will ask again when I return for my next appt. In the meantime I guess the vitamin E is not a bad idea. "Stickymess" how are you doing on the probiotics??? Update when you get a moment. Regards to all you fellow sufferers.

Hey everyone, happy holidays! Thanks for all of the great updates. Diane, I'm so glad you are trying to get some answers from your doctor. I like the idea of trying Vitamin E, it's worth a shot. Let me know how your lab results go when you find out! I'm doing fine with the probiotics, and so far I haven't had an allergic reaction. I'm taking Florajen, it's dairy free and I bought it at Whole Foods. I'm sure it's helping, but I think it's going to be a slow process to get my gut back in balance. Thanks for mentioning that corn has microtoxins in it, I had no idea. I was eating it all the time at Chipotle for lunch, but it seems that it's feeding the yeast problem. I was trying to find 'Know the Cause' on my cable network, but I don't think we have it, bummer!

Sorry I've been MIA, but I found out that the staph infection I'm dealing with is MRSA. I had no idea as it's been overlooked by the lab, and the reports only stated Staph Aureus. I know people can have it and it doesn't cause problems, but I also know it can be life threatening. I'm trying not to panic and do everything I can to strengthen my immune system. I'm going to give myself a break from antibiotics and try to fight off this BUG naturally by taking garlic supplements, and incorporating herbs like cinnamin, thyme & basil into my diet. My doctor just ordered an all natural 7-day detox kit for me called NutriClean. He said it works really well for his patients as it removes harmful toxins from your body. He said antibiotics haven't been able to fully work in my system because of toxic metals (such as Barium & Gadolinium contrast metals from an MRI & CT Scan that I had) & yeast toxins, etc. have been getting in the way for the medication to fully absorb. In my 'Bible Cure for Candida Book', the doctor recommends doing a detox. I looked at some of the ingredients in NutriClean, and they are exactly the same as what the Candida book says to take so I think I'm on the right path, yea!

I now wonder if MRSA could be an underlying cause of my sticky skin or if it's mainly my initial theory of a yeast allergy?? I'm really not sure as I'm dealing with both issues. This is such a long journey, but I'm learning a lot. I can't wait for all of us to get some relief from our health issues and sticky skin. We deserve it!

Hi Everyone This is Diane: Kacha I read your comments sorry to hear of your longsuffering. I had hoped for a centralized and organized "symptom/drug allergy/products used" checklist initiative on this website, however, it takes a computer literate person to do the initial setup. Sadly, I am not computer savvy to initiate it or it would have been done months ago by me. I can barely navigate google. In an effort to update everyone I received my lab results from the Vitamin A and TSH, T3, T4. All four tests were within the normal ranges. Thats the good news. So thryoid issues are ruled out as a cause and Vit A also. The bad news is: it will be back to the drawing board. I have a follow up appt with the dermatologist which should be interesting. I did not use the EpiCeram cream he prescribed because I read up on it and it said it will tingle for a few minutes when it is applied. I thought that was odd and don't want to have to deal with tingling. "Sticky Mess" I know you thought there was going to be a breakthrough and we were going to pin this down to a thyroid or Vit A issue. This is not the case. It may very well be our original guess that having an excess amount of yeast intake is the culprit for all of us. Afterall, Yeast is a big part of all our lives. To take the guess work out of the situation whoever wants to eliminate yeast completely (which is difficult especially if you love bread, cake etc. like me) would be able to see if the symptoms disappear. Before I decide to do this I am going to revisit the dermatologist in early December hope he will shed more insight into the cause. Maybe more tests of some sort?? Covering the problem up with cream is not a solution. Our skin needs to breath not be clogged up. Don't lose hope.

Hi Ladies! I really appreciate your continuous feedback, it helps me so much. Diane: I'm so happy for you that your thyroid is doing well and you're ranges are normal. Thanks for the updates on the lab results with Vitamin A too. I think we can definitely pinpoint this to a yeast allergy now, but how do we fix it? Along with the sticky skin I've been having terrible pelvic pain, and I just found out that the type of yeast I have is Candida Glabrata (a very stubborn type), and it's resistant to the yeast medications I've tried. I guess I'm having an allergic reaction to that and it's causing all of my symptoms. I got some EpiCeram from my dermatologist too... I used a little bit on my hands and it made them really soft. It has one unfriendly ingredient in it, but it seems ok otherwise. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly helps me too.

I learned from reading the Yeast Connection that yeast overgrowth cause chemical sensitivies & yeast allergies to occur. I drink many different types of bottled water. Last night I drank Dasani, and my pain felt worse... I looked on the label and there are several added chemical ingredients including salt, yikes! Now I need to search for a bottled water that is yeast/chemical friendly. They say to drink Distilled water when dealing with Candida overgrowth. I'm sure it doesn't taste very good, but I'm going to give it a try & maybe add some fresh squeezed lemon for flavor.

Kacha: My sticky skin occurs only when moist. All other times, my skin is extremely dry & feels like aligator skin. Sorry to hear you're not well. I can relate... I'm in the worst pain of my life and I'm a sticky mess. Can't wait to get this figured out. I'm keeping the faith!

a_sticky_mess - I may have missed this earlier, but how did you isolate your situation to a yeast allergy? Did you have specific tests or did you go through an elimination process? Thanks, Pat

Hey there Pat!

A yeast allergy is the only logical explanation from what I've gathered after comparing notes with everyone here. I had a food allergy test that shows I'm highly allergic to baker's yeast. I spent years eating white bread, pasta, desserts and sugary foods, and I think it has finally caught up with me. We know that the stickiness is something internal. We all have yeast in our bodies and sometimes it can overgrow and cause major health problems. After much research I know that yeast overgrowth can cause food and chemical allergies, and my stickiness started from using deodorant containing sodium benzoate. I've been battling a chronic yeast infection for months, so I know that it's affecting my body severly. Also I have a slimy substance in my mouth which I think is yeast, and I read that yeast can cause bumps in the back of your throat too (oral thrush). I'm doing my best to stay on a yeast free diet, plus I'm trying antifungal medications, but the type of Candida I have is resistant to many medications. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my stickiness will disappear once my infection is gone and my system is back in balance. I'll keep you posted. I could be wrong about my theory on what's causing this problem, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me. What are your thoughts??

a_sticky_mess - Thanks so much for the information. Yes, what you're saying does make sense for you, and I'm so glad you have this information and are able to take action for yourself! It's surprising sometimes how our bodies can turn on us. I have, for example, had at least one cat as a pet for most of my life, but a few years back I developed an allergy to cats. I had multiple symptoms and had allergy tests done. The results were quite surprising but made a lot of sense. In anticipation of your question, I didn't give up cats, I just made some adjustments so I could live comfortably with the situation...although when Phoenix the Cat passes on I may just get a hairless cat the next time around. :-) Pat

Hey Pat - I'm glad you think that the yeast allergy theory makes sense! My body has completely turned again me... along with eating too many sweets, carbs and fried foods for years, I've taken too many antibiotics unnecessarily, and my system is completely out of balance. Thanks for sharing your story about your cat, that's very helpful!
