Jo Newman

Fierce, stunning and equally talented as beautiful, Jo Newman was destined to be in front of the camera and she’s making her big screen debut as Bree, a sexually charged salesgirl under the direction of the distinguished Edward Zwick in the 20th Century Fox highly anticipated film, “Love and Other Drugs.” Set for a Thanksgiving weekend release, Jo appears alongside Jake Gyllenhall as a seductive salesgirl with a hot, steamy sex scene in which audiences can catch a glimpse of her rock-hard, yoga-toned body.
Born and raised in Western Massachusetts, Jo Newman moved to New York City at age seventeen in pursuit of acting at New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts. Within one month of graduation from Tish, Jo landed her first role as a guest star on the HBO series “The Sopranos.” Portraying a provocative “goomar” (a.k.a. the girlfriend of a married mobster), an unforgettable role marking the birth to her acting career. In a dramatic scene, Jo is showered in blood when her character’s mobster boyfriend gets shot. Jo recalls, “I couldn’t believe the rush. I could not have felt better, more alive, more satisfied at that moment.” From this first role of her career, Jo embodied every character, giving life to the lines as she interpreted them. She has since landed roles on various dramatic TV series including, “Guilding Light,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Law and Order: SVU.” She has also appeared as the face for a wide range of television commercials and print advertisements including Sunsilk Hair Care, Ticketmaster, Subway Sandwiches and Mini Cooper to name a few.
Off-screen, Jo stays in incredible shape doing yoga. She was introduced to yoga at NYU, a class as part of her required curriculum in studying drama. As one who swears by yoga, Jo is an expert who has found practical life lessons in the art and is devoted to converting those around her so others can reap the benefits through sharing her yoga passion. From the yoga mat to the small screen, Jo is making the leap to the big screen in the highly anticipated “Love and Other Drugs.”
Set in the 1990’s when the pharmaceutical company Pfizer introduces Viagra to the market, this highly anticipated romantic comedy tells the story of how this little blue pill affected the nation, the economy, and the attitude towards sex. Alongside an A-list cast and under the direction of Edward Zwick (“Good Will Hunting,” “the Last Samurai,” “Blood Diamond,” and “Traffic”), Jo portrays an insane salesgirl, Bree who is under the influence of various legal and illegal substances. Since filming “Love and Other Drugs,” Jo has settled down in Manhattan Beach where she continues doing what she loves, Yoga and acting.
