High in flavonoids, dark chocolate may help in the battle against heart disease.
According to The Cleveland Clinic, “The fat in chocolate comes from cocoa butter and is made up of equal amounts of oleic acid (a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat also found in olive oil), stearic and palmitic acids. Stearic and palmitic acids are forms of saturated fat … research shows that stearic acid appears to have a neutral effect on cholesterol, neither raising nor lowering.”
The holidays might be filled with sweets, candy and other decadent goodies, but not all favorites are created equal. Some foods have real health benefits (when consumed in moderation, of course).
