Your period is proof that you did not become pregnant. Having protected sex prevented you from becoming pregnant. Since you are having your period now, there is nothing more to do.
Stress could have been the reason you were late this month. Stress certainly plays a role in suppressing the functioning of the hypothalamus, which controls the pituitary gland which, in turn, controls the thyroid and adrenal glands and the ovaries. They all work together to manage the hormones that control the menstrual cycle.
Manu, please schedule an appointment with a gynecologist, who can help you choose the best type of birth control, that will work well for you.
