When your become pregnant, your body starts producing hCG which is a hormone produced during pregnancy. This hormone increases the longer your are pregnant. The doctor's note meant that if you had become pregnant 5 days before it was still too soon to detect the hCG levels.
Pregnancy is more easily detected after your first missed or irregular period.
