The risk for pregnancy depends on how many pills were missed and when they were not taken.
A general rule is never missed seven consecutive days of birth control pills. This extends the hormone free period. Missing pills at the beginning of and at the end of a pack also extends the hormone free period. Extending this period stimulates your ovaries to release a mature egg (ovulation).
Anonymous, you may be okay with no pregnancy risk because you only missed three pills. But, if your period is late by more than one week, do take a pregnancy test.
Levels of hCG, which is the hormone that is only produced during pregnancy, can be detected in urine about 12 to 14 days following conception.
