Home pregnancy tests are very reliable at detecting any "pregnancy hormones" once a woman has missed her period, so hopefully that is helpful.
As Diane said, it can be normal for a woman to have a late, even missed, period. If she is still very concerned, does she have a gynecologist she can call to make an appointment? Many GYNs are not concerned with one missed period (with a negative pregnancy test and no other symptoms), and may even tell her to wait for her next period--it's really that common.
